AWO in the Sub-District of Hagen / Märkischer Kreis
The treatment centre in Deerth is under the aegis of the AWO (Workers’ Welfare Organisation) and consists of several rehabilitation clinics and facilities for adults addicted to illegal substances. All types of facilities are represented: specialised clinics, adaption clinics, involuntary treatment and follow-up care/outpatient department. The foundations of its work are medical rehabilitation as well as involuntary treatment ordered by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Approximately 160 places, most of which for inpatients, are available. The main focus is psychotherapeutic treatment rounded off by an intensive learning process by means of diverse educational offers and integration into social and work life. The educational offers comprise groups dealing with various broader topics such as nutrition, healthcare, job application training, employment reintegration training, addiction prevention, gender-specific offers, social skills training and social counselling.

The Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO, Worker’s Welfare Organisation) is a non-profit registered members association and recognised umbrella organisation for independent public welfare work. It is non-denominational. The AWO of the Sub-District of Hagen - Märkischer Kreis currently employs approximately 800 full-time employees in the following areas: counselling and counselling services, senior citizen work, addiction disorders, family, children and youth work, early care, and vocational training for youths.
